STEVEDORING

Stevedoring

With some of the best equipment, first class terminal facilities and wide experience particularly in steel products, Morterm Limited is Windsor area’s only full service marine terminal. In combination with unique flexibility, Morterm’s discharge rates – especially for steel products – are unmatched in the Great Lakes.
Located on the Detroit River, Morterm Limited can handle any vessel able to operate in the St. Lawrence Seaway System with its working berths dredged to full Seaway depth of 8 metres or 26 feet, 6 inches.

Specialized Cargo Handling

Morterm Limited is equipped to handle steel in any form, bulks, containers
and general cargo with cranage up to 400 tonnes capacity and a fleet of lift
trucks ranging in capacity from 36 tonnes steel handlers to 2 tonnes fork
trucks in warehouse service.
Morterm’s rate structure is the most competitive amongst the Great Lakes
ports with no MEA-type charges and very low Port Authority rates. See the
Port of Windsor at www.portwindsor.com.
Morterm has a great deal of experience in handling steel in almost ever form
– coil, beams, plate and wire rod for example.
Morterm has long experience with project cargoes that are large, awkward
and heavy. The terminal facilities lend themselves well to this kind of cargo.

Warehousing & Rail Access

Four warehouses comprising 14,864 square metres or 160,000 square feet
can be utilized to protect whether sensitive cargoes and the large outdoor
storage areas permit the allowance of generous free time provisions.
Cargoes moving to or from Morterm’s premises can do so by rail, truck or
barge.
The terminal is serviced by the Essex Terminal Railway which connects
with CN Rail, CP Rail, CSX Transportation, Norfolk Southern and Conrail
allowing complete access to the entire Canadian, American and Mexican
railway networks.

Direct Access, Competitive Rates

There is a plentiful supply of trucking in the area and excellent road connections with Ontario’s 401 highway system and quick access to the Ambassador Bridge, the busiest border crossing between Canada and the U.S., and from there onto the interstate freeway system.
Morterm has negotiated a number of very attractive truck rates for goods moving from Windsor to the GTA (Greater Toronto Area, roughly Oshawa to Hamilton, Ontario). The rates are based on “back hauls” for truck that have delivered goods in the Windsor/Detroit area and face an empty back haul to the GTA.
